FAQs about Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT)

If you’ve been suffering from chronic foot pain and have not had success with any of the treatment methods tried so far, we at Caring Podiatry want to offer you a revolutionary solution: Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology or EPAT. This highly effective treatment uses shockwaves to accelerate healing and reduce or eliminate pain. Below are some frequently asked questions about EPAT to acquaint you with this technology.

Q: What is EPAT, and how does it work?

A: EPAT is a technology that uses focused acoustic waves that carry a high degree of energy. This shockwave is delivered via a wand to the treated area, stimulating metabolism, enhancing blood circulation, and accelerating the healing process. The treatment causes damaged tissue to gradually regenerate and significantly decreases or eliminates pain.

Q: What conditions can EPAT help?

A: EPAT can relieve pain for a wide variety of chronic musculoskeletal pain. Some conditions it has been shown to successfully treat include:

·         Plantar fasciitis

·         Achilles tendonitis

·         Chronic ankle pain

·         Heel spurs

·         Tendonitis

Q: What makes EPAT a better solution than other pain relief treatments?

A: EPAT has a proven success rate in treating the above and other podiatric conditions that cause chronic pain equal to or greater than traditional treatment methods, including surgery. There are none of the risks or complications that come with surgery, and also no long recovery time. EPAT is done right in our Monroe Township (609-860-9111) or Neptune (732-455-8700) offices. It does not require anesthesia, and most patients can bear weight and walk out of the office on their own. All regular activities can be resumed within just a few days. Hear what one of our patients has to say about the incredible benefits of EPAT by watching the video on our EPAT page.

Q: Is it safe?

A: This technology was originally developed in Europe and is FDA-cleared for use in this country. Extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and effectiveness, and it is currently in use worldwide.

Q: How soon will I see the results?

A: Most patients respond within 3 to 5 treatments. Each treatment takes about 15 minutes and is spaced a week apart.

Q: How do I know if EPAT will relieve my foot pain?

A: Our podiatrists, Andrew Schmierer, Craig Shapero, and Mark Fillari, will get a complete medical history and examine your feet to determine if you are a candidate for EPAT.
